Artist Working Philosophy

I often have multiple projects evolving simultaneously, thematically organizing my thoughts and emotions as I live out my roles as artist, advocate, mentor, father and partner. Much of my recent work explores the nature of our interdependence with other human beings and the environment. I am interested in the dynamics of isolation and engagement within a community that affects individual and familial resilience. My projects consider the ripple effect of action or inaction in a decisive moment, the long-term consequences of the choices we make and the way in which those decisions alter relationships and environmental stability.  I use digital and analog photographic techniques that blur the boundaries of conceptual art and documentary photography. In both still and video works, I elongate the moment to provide the viewer with ample time to be present, bear witness, feel a range of emotions and have an opportunity to respond.
